Over 100 alumnae and former and current staff enjoyed a wonderful Summer Lunch gathering at St George’s on Saturday 16 June, despite the not so summery weather!
The day started with the OGA AGM in the Duguid Room in the new Sports Pavilion and then everyone gathered for drinks at 12pm before we all enjoyed a delicious lunch. The alumnae who attended ranged from recent leavers (Class of 2013) all the way to the Class of 1943 and a particular mention should go to the 35 alumnae who attended from the Class of 1983, as well as a very special 60 Year Reunion for the Class of 1958!
Our guest speaker was Moira Small (Class of 1957) who spoke passionately about the charity she has been supporting called ‘Children’s Literature for Children’ which gives books and teaching resources to children much less fortunate in Kenya and other countries across the world.
Sadly, Sheila Perera (Class of 1967), the outgoing OGA President, was not able to attend, but Mary Comer (Class of 1997) stepped in and spoke to the alumnae to thank Sheila and to outline her future plans for the OGA and alumnae in her role as the new OGA President. I was also able to tell everyone about my future plans for Alumnae Relations and the new Foundation Office which the alumnae seemed very excited about. Alex Hems thanked the whole St George's Community for coming together for such a lovely event.
Our two voluntary archivists from Glasgow University, Chloe Elder and Kristen Mercier, created a wonderful display from the archives with relevant memorabilia for all year groups present at the Summer Lunch, which provoked much discussion and hilarity too!
The whole day was rounded off with tours for alumnae around the Upper School given by some of our girls from Houldsworth House, our boarding house.
The Summer Lunch was a very special day for the St George’s Community and I am already looking forward to next year's event.
