Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
At 5am on Wednesday morning, 11 St George's pupils met Madame Porteous and Mr Clarke at the airport to travel to Nice. When we got there, we walked to a little boulangerie and then ate lunch on the stony beach. Mr Clarke and a few of the girls wanted to see how cold the water was so they tested it, but ended up getting drenched. After lunch we went back to the hotel and settled into our rooms. After a couple of hours, we went down to dinner. The next two mornings we studied French in a French school. One of the days after school we had a guided tour of Nice in which we visited the Mamac museum of modern art. The next afternoon we stayed on the beach in Nice.
On the Saturday we took the train into Monaco. We saw the changing of the guards outside the palace and the oceanographic museum which was amazing. We separated for half an hour to wander round the shops. On Sunday we went to Antibes to visit the Picasso museum and the market. We then got to go to the sand beach in Antibes. We all enjoyed Antibes more than Monaco because it was cheaper. On our last day we went to school and then climbed to the top garden in Eze to see the views. On the way back to the bottom we danced and sang all the way back to the train station. Mr Clarke was very impressed. On one of the evenings we went to see the floating men in the centre of town. They represented every continent and faced in the direction of their continent. On the last evening we went back into the centre and danced to a busker in front of the fountains. Unfortunately, we had to go back home on Monday evening after having an amazing time. We are also now more confident and happy speaking French.
