Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
On Thursday 15 November, the Primary 3 girls were extremely excited to find that the COSMOS Planetarium inflatable dome had touched down in the Junior School Hall! Under the command of their space captain, Steve, the girls were taken on a 3D journey into space. The girls were asked to lie down so as to get the best view of the ‘night sky’.
They went on a journey through space, past all of the planets that they have been learning about in our Solar System, the Milky Way. They also went back in time and watched the first men arrive on the moon. They flew through the icy rings of Saturn and explored the deep waters recently discovered beneath the surface of Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons.
Here are some of the things that the girls enjoyed:
- I liked it when we saw the footprint left on the moon. Larissa
- I learnt that the first person to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong. Emilie
- Learning about the planets was fun! Ayo
- I liked learning about the red spot on Jupiter. Georgia
It was a really exciting morning, thoroughly enjoyed by both classes and the nursery girls who managed to sneak in too as they have also been learning about space!
