We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mrs Sally Allison as Housemistress of Houldsworth House, St George’s boarding house, from the start of the Autumn term 2019.
Mrs Allison joins St George's at a time when boarding numbers at St George’s are expanding, and the boarding house was awarded the highest grade of excellent across all areas of assessment for the fifth consecutive time in the latest residential boarding inspection.
Sally is currently a housemother in one of the boarding houses at Merchiston Castle School, where she has been for the last two years looking after 14-15-year-old boys.
Sally is also a part-time teacher of Food Technology at St George’s, having spent ten years teaching Food Technology in schools in central Scotland. She will continue in this role when she starts her Housemistress role at St George’s next term. The position of Housemistress is a newly created full-time residential post in which Sally will be a strong pastoral figure overseeing both wellbeing and academic progress. She will be responsible for the welfare and safety of the pupils, and the smooth running of the family orientated boarding house.
Sally Allison commented:
“I have been bowled over by my warm welcome at Houldsworth. You can immediately feel the friendly, supportive and homely atmosphere.
“I am spending as much time as I can in Houldsworth this term, meeting everyone and learning the ropes. I am looking forward to getting to know each of the girls and their families really well, and as quickly as possible.
“As well as providing pastoral support, my background gives me a strong passion for food, cookery and crafts to add to the mix of the activities run for the girls in the House. I have also studied History of Art, I’m a linocut artist, and I run a small business designing and selling vintage railway style posters.”
Sally, her husband Richard, who teaches at Stewart Melville School, and her two teenage daughters Flora and Saskia, and Delphie their whippet, will be living full-time in Houldsworth House from this August.
