Several L6 students from the new Young Enterprise groups attended the Young Enterprise Lothian Area Training Event at RBS, Gogarbank on Saturday the 21st of September. Many of the schools from the Lothian Area attended. They had a full agenda on the day starting with keynote speaker Fraser Doherty.
Fraser Doherty started his incredible business career at the age of just fourteen. After being taught how to make jam in his grandmother’s kitchen in Scotland, he came up with a way of making jam 100% from fruit. At sixteen, he presented his brand, SuperJam, to Waitrose and went on to become the youngest ever supplier to a major supermarket. SuperJam has since grown into a company that has sold many millions of jars through thousands of supermarkets around the world; it was such an inspirational story for the students to hear.
Throughout the day they had various workshops including learning about report writing with financial accounts to creating a video, all part of the competition element of Young Enterprise. They could also book a meeting in a "War Room" where they could have a private talk with business people about their product ideas. They also did get to enjoy the hospitality of the RBS in their ultra-modern headquarters. This training day was a great start to their Young Enterprise journey for all the students who attended.
