Blogs and News - St George's School, Edinburgh
The Junior School Charities Committee visited the One Stop Shop Broomhouse Food Bank last week to find out what really happens at a food bank. As it is a small, local charity we were amazed to hear just how many people it helps, not only by giving out food packages but by also offering advice on how to get back into work. It made us realise that food poverty is a real issue in Edinburgh and this charity relies solely on food donations.
As part of our festive fundraising, we are making 'reverse advent calendars' which means that we are asking all Primary 2, 3 and 4 girls to bring something in to donate to the food bank. If each girl brought in one tin of food then we would really be able to make a difference to some people, less fortunate than us, this Christmas.
