Owls Swoop into Visit Primary 1!

Primary 1 owls visit

The Primary One girls were very excited on the Thursday before the Christmas holidays because they were having some special visitors! Tracey and her team from Owl-Magic came to visit us with nine owls. There was a Tawny Owl called Ziggy, a Barn Owl called Cuddles, a Long-Eared Owl called Cookie, two Tropical Screech-Owls called Hughie and Theodore, two Indian Scops Owls called Navid and Bow, an Ashen-Faced Barn Owl and a Tengmalm's Owl called Belle.

A pupil holds a owlWe had been learning all about owls and other nocturnal animals in class, but it was so exciting seeing real live owls. We all got to hold an owl! We had to wear a special glove so the owl would feel comfortable sitting on our hands. Tracey told us lots of interesting facts about owls. They have binocular vision you know, and their hearing is so good they can hear the heartbeat of a mouse. Some owls can sit for up to 19 hours a day and they have special little bumps on their feet so they don't get sore.

We had a wonderful time!
