Blogs and News - St George's School, Edinburgh
We went to the science laboratory to conduct a science experiment. We put on some safety equipment: a plastic apron and some safety goggles. We were in groups of three and each group had a tray of equipment: red dye, a pipette, vinegar, washing-up liquid, bicarbonate of soda, plasticine, a funnel, a plastic container and a spatula. We were told the safety rules before we got started.
We moulded the plasticine lightly around the funnel to make a cone shape. We half-filled the container with some bicarbonate of soda. Using the pipette, we added three to four drops of red dye. We also added three to four drops of washing-up liquid. We put the volcano shape over the container in the tray. We squeezed the vinegar into the hole at the top of the volcano shape. A fizzy, bubbly foam escaped through the hole at the top and oozed down the sides!
