We are delighted to announce that Sofia (Upper 5) has been awarded a Highly Commended prize in the 15 – 18 age category of the Royal Society of Biology’s Nancy Rothwell Award. Nancy Rothwell is a British physiologist and Chair of the Russell Group of 24 leading UK Universities, who encourages women to pursue careers in science.
The Nancy Rothwell Award celebrates specimen drawing in schools and highlights the benefits of combining art and science. The competition is run in collaboration with the Royal Veterinary College and attracts over 500 entries from around the world. The top three runners-up in each category receive prizes, including a copy of the book The Field Guide to Drawing and Sketching by Tim Pond, one of the judges from the Zoological Society of London. Sofia has done extremely well in a very competitive international field of entries. The judges looked for scientific and zoological accuracy, the way the material was placed on the page, as well as what the artists chose to show in their work.
