Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
At the beginning of term, we welcomed some new girls into the year group, and we have all enjoyed meeting up with all of our friends again.
This term, the focus has been on our literacy topic, based on some Roald Dahl books. We have enjoyed hearing some of The Enormous Crocodile, James and the Giant Peach, The BFG and The Twits.
On 13 September, we dressed in yellow or as a character to celebrate Roald Dahl’s birthday. We took part in lots of fun activities during the day relating to the books. We estimated and measured the length of ‘caterpillars’ using centimetres and found some natural objects outside to estimate and measure too.
We have written some amazing Roald Dahl character descriptions and imaginative writing using exciting adjectives and interesting vocabulary and we have listened carefully
As part of studying James and the Giant Peach, we have been learning about minibeasts. We have learned that they are invertebrates and like to live in damp, dark places such as under logs in our Fantastical Forest. In Art, we have made a wanted poster for the crocodile, our own dream jars, dream catchers and Mr Twit with a messy beard. We are looking forward to listening to some of Roald Dahl’s other books and participating in more exciting activities in the coming weeks.
