Blogs and News - St George's School, Edinburgh
15 of our Upper 4 students have recently been involved in a virtual 'Hosting Week' as part of the Upper 4 International Exchange programme with our partner schools in North America. Each student has a partner at one of the schools and during the virtual hosting, the girls created online blogs to share with their overseas partners. Our partner schools were: Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia, Trinity Valley School in Fort Worth TX, Branksome Hall and St Clement's School, both in Toronto, Canada.
Poppy, U4, tells us about her experience:
"Due to Covid and not being able to meet our exchange partner in person we created a Hosting Week. We spent the week off timetable creating a blog for our partners to show them tourist spots and activities that we would have done with them if they had been with us here in the UK.
"Over the course of the week, as a group, we went to Edinburgh Castle, the Dungeons, Stockbridge, the Zoo, North Berwick, Arthur’s Seat, Holyrood Palace, Parliament, and the National Museum. My favourite day was Wednesday when we went to North Berwick and showed our partner how close to the east coast beaches Edinburgh is. We played rounders on the beach and got chips from the chippy and ice cream.
"I also enjoyed Friday morning when we went to the museum. I didn’t have very high expectations and wasn’t very excited to go, but I had a great fun day and got some super photos when I got there. Hosting Week was so much fun, and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without the teachers who took us on these excursions.
"Overall, the International Exchange was a great experience and if given the opportunity again I would do it. I got the chance to learn about living in the States and Canada and the similarities and differences we have with our partners overseas. I also made a great friend that I look forward to meeting when I go to visit them in October. The digital exchange was so much fun, and it will be something I will never forget."
