Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
As usual, it has been a busy week in Pre-school!
This week in Pre School, the Big Owls held their Ballet Recital. We were so proud of their performance and it was lovely to observe their progress. We have been enjoying practising our songs with Mrs Coad, in preparation for our Daffodil Concert. We discussed International Women's Day and the importance of celebrating one another.
The photographer arrived on Tuesday morning. We put on our sunshine smiles and had fun saying 'cheese'!
In Numeracy and Mathematics, the girls are still enjoying counting, recognising, matching numbers, creating patterns and building with magnetic shapes on the Lightbox. We set up a Measurement Exploration Centre where the girls have been exploring number, weighing, measuring and mark making.
Block play continues to prove popular and the girls are using animals, numbers, a design kit and some more loose parts to extend the play. Volume – we have used different size containers in water trays to encourage pouring, filling and measuring. We added withered daffodils to the water and mixed up many potions and lotions.
In Literacy and English, we have been learning about the letter/sound 'a' in many areas of the nursery environment.
- Can you find objects that begin with 'a'?
- We wonder if you would like to paint a letter 'a'
Outdoor Learning plays a big part of our nursery day: Spring is on its way and we noticed crocuses and snowdrops growing on our walk over to the Wildwood on Wednesday afternoon.
In the Wildwood, the girls were enjoying digging for treasure and making mud cakes. We shared some snack and on the way back to Nursery we had time to run a race. It was very windy but we managed to stay on our feet!
Some of the Tawny and Eagle Owls pulled on their dungarees and wellies before heading off to the Wildwood on Thursday morning. They had fun digging and painting pictures of daffodils.
Meanwhile back in the Nursery, the rest of the girls had the opportunity to read their favourite stories to one another and some girls designed and created their own story books.
On Friday afternoon, some of the Big Owls attended the Celebration Assembly in the Junior School.
Our favourite stories this week have been: A Quiet Night In, Mr Greedy, Mr Jelly and Farmer Duck. We will continue to encourage the girls to bring in their own favourite story books to read to their friends during Circle Time.
