Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
Our first week after the Easter holiday was dedicated to Easter Celebrations. The children have had a great time engaging in an array of Easter themed activities. The week started with the Little Owls sharing moments and experiences from their holiday. It seems as though everyone had super fun doing Easter activities with their families, visiting new places and meeting new friends.
A very simple version of the Easter story was read to the children accompanied by pictures of famous paintings of Jesus praying, the Last Supper and his entry to Jerusalem. Little Owls were mesmerised by the paintings and asked many questions about Jesus showing their natural, innocent curiosity about the world. Here are some of their comments:
"He is wearing a big dress"; "the spikes are sore"; "Jesus died"; "he is alive again!"; "is he scared?"; "he is wearing a purple dress"; "Jesus had dinner with his friends"; "who are the bad people?"; "there was no door only a big rock!".
On Friday all the nursery classes gathered together and walked across the school towards the St George's Centre singing Spring songs. Everyone rolled their eggs and cheered and clapped as they went down the hill. Some of us rolled our eggs so much that there was no egg shell left to pick at the end of the activity!
Our Easter week ended in the Fantastical Forest where the Little Owls and Ducklings took part in an egg hunt.
This week has been a great beginning for the new term as there was lots of fun and excitement amongst children and staff alike!
