Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
Every year we host a Primary 6 and Primary 7 netball tournament at St George's. We invite local primary schools for a fun, friendly and action packed afternoon of netball. This year we were blessed with great weather for both events and all the schools involved seemed to really enjoy their afternoon in the sun.
In the Primary 7 tournament we welcomed schools from George Watson’s College, Cramond, The Mary Erskine School and Flora Stevenson, and two teams were entered from St George's. It was a tightly contested tournament with some fantastic netball on display. When the points were all added up at the end, St George's pink team and Cramond were on equal points and also on equal goal difference. This resulted in extra time being played and after a 2-2 draw at the end of this, it went to golden goal. On this occasion, Cramond came out on top as the winners. Although the girls were obviously disappointed to narrowly miss out on the gold medals, they were delighted with their efforts and went home exhausted after an action packed afternoon.
In the Primary 6 tournament, we welcomed schools from George Watson’s College, Cramond, Roseburn and Flora Stevenson, with again two teams entered from St George's. The Primary 6 girls were very excited to get the opportunity to play so many games back to back and were equally delighted to have Catherine and Molly (Under 21 Scotland players) looking after their teams. During the day, the scores were mixed amongst all teams and there were a few high scoring draws, which demonstrates how competitive it was. The St George's pink team were the only group to go undefeated throughout the afternoon and were the overall winners of the tournament. Well done to everyone involved!
