Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
On Sunday 28 May 2017, 20 girls from Remove went on a magnificent trip to the Sierra de Gredos in Spain. They spoke a lot of Spanish and enjoyed various different activities.
Sunday – Domingo
We flew to Madrid and then travelled to the Gredos Centre by coach. When we got to the Gredos Centre, we gathered in the 'salón'. The instructor told us about dormitories so that we could unpack and put our bags in the storeroom before having dinner.
Monday – Lunes
Monday was an action-packed day with team building games, creative workshop, archery, TV programme making and a cooking course during which we made some tortilla española!
Tuesday – Martes
In Ávila, we went up the medieval walls, equipped with an audio-guide to learn new facts. Then it was shopping time. We also tried some Yemas, sweets made locally and very tasty. Once back at the centre we all got ready for the mountain hike, learning about different ecosystems and about the food chain, all facts given in Spanish!
Wednesday – Miércoles
More workshops took place in the morning and then we all walked to the village of Navarredonda de Gredos for a treasure hunt, learning our directions in Spanish. When we came back, we had an aerobics session and learnt to dance following the instructions we were given, again in Spanish. In the evening we were given the tee-shirts we had painted earlier in the week and watched the final version of our TV programme “España tiene talento”!
Thursday - Jueves
We began the day by finishing the football tournament started the day before, had breakfast celebrating Sophie’s birthday with cake and a beautifully decorated dining room for the occasion. Then we started travelling, stopping at the Aguila Caves on the way, before reaching Madrid airport for our return to Edinburgh.
We all really enjoyed the trip and the activities.
