Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
On Tuesday 19 September, Primary 5 went on an exciting art trip to the amazing sculpture park called Jupiter Artland.
We entered through silvery gates and walked through a deep wood to find Sally who was our education assistant for the day. We split into two groups and hunted through the forest with Ms Knox and Sally to find and talk about hidden sculptures. The two groups had great fun shouting across the park when we discovered the sculpture called ‘Over here’ by Shane Waltener.
In the afternoon, we worked in groups of six to respond to the forest and to weave, entwine, and wrap branches using colourful balls of wool.
- ‘It was so satisfying to knot, loop and wrap patterns’, Charlotte
- ‘If you went into the middle of our woven trees you got stuck inside’, Lottie
- ‘The sun shone through our weaving and it looked sparkly and magical’, Amelia
The groups talked about the ideas behind their designs and gave names to their sculptures: Snow White, Home Sweet Home, the Hammock, the Secret Den, Sunlight and Camouflage. We photographed our woven sculptures and then had to pull them apart - which was also great fun.
Today we entwined, wove and knotted branches in the Fantastical Forest and we will extend the techniques we have learnt by making dreamcatchers in our Art lessons.
