Blogs and News - St George's School For Girls, Edinburgh
We are well into the Saturday morning hockey fixtures and have enjoyed matches against George Heriot’s, Edinburgh Academy, North Berwick, George Watson’s College and midweek matches against an Argentinian Touring Team and Glenalmond, whilst the 1st XI also travelled to Robert Gordon’s for a tournament.
The Lower 6 hockey girls were grouped together to form a team to play the Argentinian touring side. This was a great experience for the girls playing together for the first time in two years. It was a very competitive match, helped on by some encouragement from our ‘home’ crowd! It was an end-to-end game with many chances for both teams. The Argentinian side managed to convert in the last play of the game winning the tie 1-0.
The Upper 4 A team had a competitive fixture against George Watson’s College on Saturday, resulting in a close 0-0 draw. The score reflected the nature of the match as the girls played some great hockey, not only defending well against a tough George Watson’s College side but they also had lots of attacking opportunities, particularly in the second half of the match. The girls should be proud of how they played.
The Upper 4 A team also had an impressive performance against Glenalmond on Tuesday afternoon. The girls dominated from the start of the match and very much looked in control, linking some great passing play in the attacking half. It was a great team performance and a 5-0 win to the girls as a result.
The Lower 5 A team travelled to play Glenalmond on Tuesday. The game was very close and the girls played some excellent hockey in the first half, creating numerous goal scoring opportunities. The final score was 2-2 after some exciting play from both teams. Well done to all girls involved!
